{"id":47,"date":"2008-11-29T18:44:43","date_gmt":"2008-11-29T18:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mccareysimmonds.co.uk\/data\/?p=47"},"modified":"2025-10-17T13:02:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T13:02:20","slug":"environmental-housing-for-wolverhampton-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mccareysimmonds.co.uk\/data\/environmental-housing-for-wolverhampton-city-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental housing for Wolverhampton City Council."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>30 apartments and terrace housing. \u00a34.0 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This November, Cross Street South, the Midland\u2019s first Eco community in Wolverhampton, won the Sustainable Housing Award for \u2018Sustainable larger social housing project of the year\u2019 at a ceremony hosted by impressionist, comedian, and committed environmental campaigner, Alistair McGowan, at London\u2019s Hilton Hotel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Cross Street 1\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3284\/3068972841_d750105ba2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This ground breaking development,\u00a0<strong>the superstructure structural engineering which was designed by McCarey Simmonds<\/strong>, provides 27 eco-friendly flats and 3 houses that uses up to 50% less energy than standard homes, only needing 2 kilowatts of heat as opposed to the usual 8 to 10. It also uses a range of low maintenance materials such as cedar cladding and recycled wood in its kitchen units. The grass roof provides good insulation and keeps the homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
